In this month’s issue:
RIC Trials
We have no less than three new trials this month. First we have Andy Theaker’s ‘Profit From Betting’ service which in just six weeks made 117 points profit to SP and 159 points taking Best Odds Guaranteed or Betfair prices. This looks like one to watch! Next we have ASAP Lays which made 36 points in January and finally the ‘Double Chance’ football service which made 34 points last month. You can read all about these exciting trials on Page 6.
David Renham looks at trainer data for a variety of ‘debut’ runs – ‘debut’ in terms of ‘first run’ in a particular race. He concentrates on Hurdles, Chases, flat Sellers and flat Claimers and highlights a few pointers, both positive and negative, for certain runners having their first start in these specific races.
In the early days, all-weather racing was a nightmare for punters as virtually anything seemed to win. However, jockeys, trainer and punters have now got used to the surface and understand what horses are needed to prosper. Consequently we now see better horses on the sand and this helps to produce more consistent results, especially at Lingfield. With this in mind Ricky Taylor brings us a winning system for Lingfield to add to our All Weather portfolio.
Racing is a highly enjoyable and challenging business which can be wonderfully profitable. But it can also be overly addictive and (if you don’t treat it with respect) financially ruinous. Help is always on hand here at the RIC and, in another insightful and challenging article from his fantastic book ‘DIY Punting’, Terry Burke urges us to ‘know why we are placing each bet’ and to constantly ask ourselves ‘what is the value of this bet to me?’.
The Highlander takes all his space this month to deal with something he mentioned some time ago - the possibility of a plan for laying multiples, trebles in fact, based on the worst ever backing multiples bet – the Union Jack, the bookies’ favourite.
Good recent form is often an important ingredient in many horse race systems, particularly on the Flat. However, this research shows that a big percentage of National Hunt horses do win on their seasonal debut, or after a lengthy break, under certain circumstances. Bernard Hibbert brings us a system that over the last four seasons has an average strike rate of 40% with good profits and a 37% return on investment with winning starting prices up to 7/1.
Mervyn Coulson continues his in-depth course analysis, turning his attention this month to Sandown while David Peat and Russell Gibbs mark our cards with their horses-to follow.
